"beau" (beautiful) does it mean the same in french culture?

Hello everyone, my name is Chelsea and traveling is my passion. Summer 2010 I will be traveling to the beautiful location of Paris, France. Experiencing first hand one of the most well known cities for monuments, art, and my favorite fashion. One of the things I am most excited for is visiting the Eiffel tower. I enjoy visiting new places, and emerging myself into the culture. I have grown up with family all over the world. Spain, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, are the different countries my family resides in.
I am a little nervous to go because my French is not very good, or as the French would say “je parle un pue” I speak a little. I took 3 years of French in high school but we did not learn many things to help us actually communicate while visiting. Although, I know how to recognize the different meats, vegetables, and fruits and I know that will come in handy. Hopefully I will be able to brush up and learn a few more things to help ease my adventures in Paris.
Another thing I am excited to learn about is the French, definition of beauty. We have so many media outlets in America pushing this idea of “hotness” as an artist named Brett Hite, has defined. He has a song called beautiful, and explains it as the qualities inside.  Beauty is what emanates from inside of you and pours out through your soul. What defines beauty to the French and does it affect us here in America? Can we learn something from their culture?
